Summary of TRANS EXPO ODESSA 2018:

challenges and prospects

 The International Black Sea Transport Forum TRANS EXPO ODESSA 2018 was held in Odessa on September 26-28.

The event attracted over 200 participants from 18 countries of Europe and Asia. 

Forum was took place in according with plan of Organization of Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) for the second half of 2018 by the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, BASPA, BINSA, TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission, the European Business Association EVA, the Association of Ports of Ukraine «Ukrport», «Ukrsudprom», Employers’ Federation of Transport of

Ukraine, the Odessa Regional State Administration and the Odessa City Council.

The organizers of the forum where the company «MediaCompass Ukraine» and the international maritime magazine «Shipping». 



Partners TRANS EXPO ODESSA 2018

The transport event united the 21st international exhibition on transport and logistics «Trans Ukraine 2018», the international specialized exhibition Trans Rail Ukraine 2018, the specialized exhibition Commercial and Municipal Transport 2018, as well as the 15th International Exhibition on Shipping, Shipbuilding and Port Development «Odessa 2018».

Within the framework of the forum, the 21st International Conference on Transport and Logistics «Development of the Ukrainian Transport System: Challenges and Prospects» took place. The strategic partner of the conference was the Administration of the seaports of Ukraine, which took part in the formation of its program.

The partner of the conference was the stevedoring company DP «Container Terminal Odessa» (CTO).

The company is a subsidiary of the leading European port and transport and logistics holding company «Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG» (HHLA AG).

The CTO, together with the Administration of the Sea Ports of Ukraine, accomplish the building of the new container terminal «Quarantine Mole», which will expand the discharge capacity of 600 thousand TEU per year. The company kindly provided an opportunity for the forum participants to visit the terminal and get acquainted with its activities.

The airline partner of the forum was the company «Turkish Airlines», which is the record holder among foreign air carriers in the number of destinations in Ukraine.

Every year, the profile ministries and departments of Ukraine take part in TRANS EXPO ODESSA. This year, the forum was attended by the stands of SE «Administration of the seaports of Ukraine», Public Corporation «UZ», JSC «Plaske», State Institution «State Hydrography», association «Ukrvneshtrans».

Among the permanent participants are the SE Mariupol Commercial Sea Port, the shipping company Ukrferry, SE SC Olvia, profile higher education institutions.

From among foreign partners, Stentor Industries BV (Holland) is a regular participant, specializing on the production of components for power plants for ships. The production facility is located in the city of Kurchani (Romania).

This year «Stentor» presented its services at the exhibition stand together with the partners «Eliche Radice SRL». This is the most powerful radial foundry in Italy, founded in 1919, which produces screws, shafts, blades, screw caps and other parts. 

Manufacturers of engines and components

For the first time in the forum participated Anglo-Belgium Corporation (ABC).

At the ABC exhibition stand it was an opportunity to familiarize with the nomenclature of engines designed for operation in difficult working conditions at sea.

Cooperation with Ukrainian companies ABC considers as one of the promising areas of its activities. Proof of this is the contract with Skinest Rail about the supply of 40 medium-speed DZC engines for the modernization of the locomotives of the main lines of TE10 to the «Ukrainian company Metinvest Holding Ukraine».

The Polish companies Hi Fi Filter and Iow Service made a successful debut. Both are engaged in the supply of original spare parts for engines to the European market.

The exposition stand was also at Trident Cо. LLC, importer of ship and industrial engines Volvo Penta in Ukraine.

The German company HWH Machines presented modern equipment and technologies used today for loading and unloading operations.

The company «UMS», which produces aluminum boats, boats, boat trailers, showed its «fresh» developments - tugs of a new generation. 

Logistics market

With technologies and innovations in the transportation of goods it was possible to familiarize in details at the stands of two Lithuanian transport companies - «Asa Prekyba» and «Uab Ramitrans».

One of the main activities of Uab Ramitrans is the transportation of goods from Europe to Ireland and vice versa. «Asa Prekyba» over 13 years is engaged in the delivery of goods from Western Europe to Eastern and other CIS countries. 

Dutch technologies in river navigation

Dutch group «Waterway Tech Holland» is another worthy debutant TRANS EXPO ODESSA 2018. At its stand the company presented innovative Dutch technologies for the development of inland waterways and seaports of the future.

By the way, the exposition became possible, thanks to the assistance of the Netherlands Embassy in Ukraine.

Within the framework of the forum «Waterway Tech Holland» held a workshop «Innovative Dutch technologies of construction of inland waterways and sea ports». 

The company founded a consortium in Ukraine, which is engaged in the implementation of the Dnipro River development initiative. It includes a number of Dutch companies and scientific institutions working in the field of water management, development of transport and ports, as well as river navigation. 

Facility Management

For the first time at the forum, the facility management was introduced. This segment was presented by the company «SHEN» (Ukraine), which is engaged in complex servicing of airports, railway stations, logistics centers of industrial enterprises and other objects for more than 9 years.

«SHEN» operates throughout the territory of Ukraine and provides both integrated services for real estate facilities and individual services, including maintenance and support of production lines, technical and engineering work, energy audits, security, cleaning. 

Investments in Infrastructure: Key Points for Ukraine

The participants of the 21st international conference on transport and logistics discussed the present and future of the transport sector, international transport, the future of Ukraine in the system of international corridors, the prospects for the development of the transport infrastructure of Ukraine and Ukrainian ports, ballast water management and control methods, the implementation of ballast in Ukraine and a number of other relevant topics.

The EU experience in the development of transport infrastructure and key issues for Ukraine was presented by the head of the sector «Energy, Transport and Environment», the EU Delegation to Ukraine Johannes Baur, the head of transport issues of the Ukraine's support group of the EU Embassy Daniel Jacques, senior economist of the transport sector of the European Investment Bank Istvan Heinzinger, as well as leading legal expert Albert Bergontzo.

A review of infrastructure investments on a global scale was introduced by the delegate from Global Infrastructure Hub (Australia), Daniel Fedson.

One of the important topics today is the use of LNG. Specialists from the Baltic States shared with the conference participants the experience of using LNG as a fuel for shipping. Lithuania's experience in the development of LNG platforms was presented by the coordinator of the Lithuanian LNG cluster Andrius Sutnikas and the director of the sales and marketing department of the Vilnius locomotive repair depot Jonas Bachinskas.

In the active format, there was a panel discussion: «The development of Ukrainian-Chinese commerce in the light of the development of the New Silk Road Initiative.»

Dmitry Petrenko, head of the newly established State marine and river transport service of Ukraine, made a report on the concept of the development of the ports of Ukraine (digital port).

A number of round tables were held within the framework of the conference: «Safety of navigation in the Rhein-Danube Transport Corridor», «Actual issues of the Ukrainian sea recruitment sector», «Sea cities of Ukraine», and the visiting session of the Committee for Mechanization, Technology and Informatics of the Association of Ports of Ukraine « Ukrport ». 

TRANS EXPO ODESSA 2018 has taken place!

The success of the forum proves once again that Ukraine is a worthy platform where the professionals of the transport industry and the world marine industry meet each year to share their experience, gain new knowledge, conclude profitable contracts and maximize the stabilization and development of the international transport market.
